Domestic Violence Advocate - Child Protective Services Liaison

Full-Time | Hourly: Starting at $22.00/hr | Hybrid Work Eligible

Position Summary

The DV-CPS Liaison works collaboratively with Maine DHHS Child Protective Services staff in York County to promote victim safety. This role provides direct advocacy and support to survivors involved with child protective services and offers consultation and training to CPS staff on domestic violence dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, risk assessment, advocacy, and emotional support to survivors and their children referred by CPS, law enforcement, and other agencies.
  • Offer consultation and education to CPS workers to ensure consistent and appropriate responses to survivors.
  • Serve as a liaison between CPS and domestic violence advocacy services, including time on-site at CPS offices.
  • Attend CPS trainings, meetings, and collaborate on systems advocacy.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit required reports.
  • Participate in staff development, regional/statewide trainings, and occasional special projects.
  • Provide scheduled coverage for Caring Unlimited’s 24/7 helpline.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years in victim advocacy or related field strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Crisis intervention, advocacy, support group facilitation, conflict resolution, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse individuals and agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must complete Caring Unlimited advocacy training and CPS orientation within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking issues required.
