Bridge Construction Foreman Position #20391 39 Route 108 / Newfields, NH $22.50/hour – $30.02/hour Overview Responsible for implementing and scheduling all bridge maintenance operations in a designated area. Supervises a crew in construction and repair projects. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after high school. Must have at least two years in a supervising role in bridge construction or maintenance. License/Certification: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License A or B (CDL‑A or CDL‑B) with tank endorsement and air brakes. Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency. Must receive a negative result on a pre‑employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements. Must have ability to climb and work from scaffolds high above the ground or water. Must be willing to work throughout the State and during emergencies for long hours, 7 days a week. Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after high school may be considered for trainee status. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of modern methods used in bridge construction and maintenance. Skill in use of bridge construction tools and equipment. Ability to place, layout and supervise workers engaged in bridge work. Ability to work outdoors for long periods under varying climatic conditions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with the motoring public, landowners along the highway right‑of‑way and employees. Demonstrated agility, mechanical ability, resourcefulness, initiative and sound judgment. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the appointing authority. After‑Hire Requirements Candidates possessing a valid Operators or CDL‑B license must obtain the CDL‑A license within 1 year of hire. Offer of employment is conditional upon obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by State of New Hampshire. Responsibilities Plans, directs, evaluates and assists a crew of workers engaged in construction, maintenance, safety and security inspections, and painting of bridges. Supervises and participates with subcontractors in all phases of bridge construction including concrete forms, reinforcement steel, welding, carpentry, concrete finishing, excavation, masonry, steel fabrication, erection, cofferdams, timber bridge, temporary bridge, demolition, steel painting and other specialized work. Plans the receipt and distribution of various construction materials required for all phases of the project. Coordinates and implements bridge projects as directed by the Bridge Construction Superintendent and assumes independent responsibility during the superintendent’s absence. Directs complex work zone traffic control procedures involving high‑speed, high‑volume traffic according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Department Standards. Prepares computerized and written reports for payroll, equipment usage, material requests, personnel evaluations, health and safety requirements and project progress. Supervises and assists crew with project safety requirements consistent with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation safety manual, policies, procedures and applicable regulations. Coordinates hiring and utilization of contracted and state‑owned equipment, supervises and participates in operation and maintenance of state‑owned equipment. Controls and directs proper handling, storage and documentation of hazardous materials, hazardous waste and solid waste in accordance with State and Federal Regulations. Oversees construction and maintenance operations in wetland areas to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
